I am so sorry that it has been forever since I have last posted. I promise I will work time into my crazy schedule for blog time!

School started! And, as all of you college students and alum know….college is crazy! I digress.

So I was sitting around the other day reading a textbook, and there was a whole article on blogging and the “blogosphere” as it’s called. I got to wondering…”I wonder what I should do next.” I thought it may be nice to do a giveaway when my blog hits 100 subscribers!

But you all have to promise me that you’ll spread the word about my blog so that we can get to 100 soon! 🙂

My Everyday Makeup Routine w/ Skincare

I’d be lying if I said I switched up my makeup every day. As a college student, I just don’t have much time to play around with new looks or the money to buy new products all the time. I do the best I can with what I have, and most mornings, I don’t have very much time! Sleep is a vital part of a college student’s life, so I try to get as much of it as possible.



Every morning, I wash my face with the Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash. It is salicylic acid based, so it really does the job at keeping my skin clear…most of the time. After my face is clean and free of all of the oils that attacked my face overnight, I apply my Clinique Clarifying Lotion in #3 for combination oily skin. This is my holy grail skincare product! I have been using it for years, and it never fails me! After this, I would normally apply a good oil-free moisturizer on my face, but I am currently searching the market for a new moisturizer. I used to use Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, but I ran out, and it’s just too expensive for me right now to repurchase.



Foundation, Concealer, and Blush Foundation, Concealer, and Blush

After my face is all clean, I apply my foundation. I use Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse cream foundation in 02 Classic Ivory. Then I use my Benefit Boi-ing concealer in a triangle shape underneath of my eyes to cover my dark circles, and I also dab this on blemishes. I am in LOVE with this concealer! It covers up everything completely without being too heavy on your face, and really lasts all day! Once my complexion is evened out, I use Covergirl’s Clean pressed powder in 510 Classic Ivory to set the foundation and concealer on my face. I bought this because youtubers were raving about it, but truthfully, I’m not in love with it. It does the job, but I probably won’t be repurchasing it. After my foundation is applied and set, I usually use a L’Oreal cream blush that I have had for so long that the label has come off.

Eye Makeup Eye Makeup

Once I have my face on, it is time to move on to the eyes. I use Maybelline’s 24hr Color Tattoo Metal cream eye shadow in 70 Barely Branded. I am completely in love with this! You can wear it as-is, or pile more glitz and glam on top of it like I do. On top of it, I usually use an Ulta eye shadow called Naked. It’s like a cream/champagne color, and it’s really beautiful. The Maybelline shadow and the Ulta shadow are very close to the same color when applied, but applying the pressed eye shadow on top of the cream really makes your eyes pop! In the crease, I apply a copper color that is in a Stila eye shadow quad. The cream and the copper really complement each other and make your eyes really stand out. I have really dark blue eyes, so the copper color really contrasts with my eyes, and looks great. For eyeliner, I use Maybelline’s Master Drama eyeliner in Midnight Master, and for Mascara, I am currently using The Rocket Volume Express, also by Maybelline. (If you can’t see a trend with Maybelline products…) Every once in a while, I will apply eyeliner to my upper lash line. If I do this, I use the ELF cream eyeliner in black.

Lips Revlon's Fuchsia Fusion

I must admit, lip products are my absolute favorite thing about makeup. While I do switch my lip color out almost every day, I’d say the one that I reach for the most is 657 Fuchsia Fusion by Revlon. It’s a very bright, bold pink, but it is gorgeous on, and can pull an entire look together. The best part about this lipstick is that it can be gradually applied, and worn lightly or boldly. It is rich and creamy, and is probably my favorite beauty product of all time.

7 Ways to Prevent and Relieve Stress as a College Student

As a college student, I am always on the go. Classes, club meetings, study groups, and spending time with my friends! It’s easy to get overwhelmed with everything going on. It’s important to recognize the signs and symptoms that you’re too stressed out and need to take a breather.  Here are some ways that I personally deal with stress, and ways to prevent it from overwhelming you!

1. Get enough sleep.

This might go without saying, but sleep does wonders on helping your brain function properly, and help you cope with the everyday demands of life. How many of you get cranky when you are sleep deprived? I know I do! Make sure you’re clocking in 7-8 hours of sleep per night! Your body will thank you!

2. Get enough food and water.

Many people I know get so caught up in their work that they forget to eat. Carbohydrates and protein are essential for acquiring enough energy to make it through the day. Brain power comes from healthy foods. It’s also important to stay hydrated while you are studying.  It is essential to flush the toxins out of your body so that you don’t get sick.  See my article about water’s effect on beauty!

3. Go get some exercise.

You are supposed to be getting 60 minutes of exercise every single day! So why not take a study break and get that 60 minutes in. It is bound to wake you up, and you’ll feel 100% better afterwards! Just don’t forget to hydrate!

4. Don’t procrastinate.

I know, I know. I sound like your parents, and every academic adviser on your campus. But bear with me here! How many times have you put off a project until the night before and was scrambling to get it done? I’m sure most of us have. It isn’t a good feeling to have to pull an all-nighter (which breaks rule #1) to ensure a good grade on an exam, or to complete a project that you’ve had 2 weeks to work on! Talk about creating unnecessary anxiety!

5. Listen to music

Personally, one of my favorite ways to relax is to just listen to some music! Put in your headphones, and just close your eyes and take in the music. This, of course only works if you’re listening to something soft and mellow.

6. Organization matters!

There is nothing more stressful than trying to find something in a sea of papers, or worse, forgetting to do something because you haven’t written it down! Taking the time once a week to straighten things out on your desk and in your bag will do wonders for your academic performance. After all, bad grades stress us out, too!

7. Schedule some time in for friends!

Just because you are crazy busy with homework, class, and extra-curriculars doesn’t mean that your friends should constantly take the back burner! They are just as important now as they were before you stepped into this world of crazy! It’s important now more than ever that you foster these friendships! Go on crazy adventures together, take pictures for Instagram and Facebook, have Disney movie marathons. Basically, just remember to spend quality time with your friends! Laughter is the best stress reliever of all, and when you’re with your friends having a good time, laughter is inevitable!

Hair Care Routine

For as long as I can remember, I have had long hair with dry ends and an oily scalp. This makes it very difficult to manage my locks and keep them healthy and shiny, because if I use a shampoo or conditioner with moisturizing benefits, my scalp becomes more oily, and my ends are balanced. On the other hand, if I don’t use a conditioner at all, my scalp is balanced, and my ends are dry and frizzy. It has taken me quite some time to figure out the perfect hair care routine that does not have me paying with my first born child.

My shampoo and conditioner that I use are the Herbal Essences “Touchably Smooth” brand. They make my hair feel clean without drying out my ends, and it smells really great!  I shampoo my hair every day, and use this conditioner every day except Mondays and Thursdays.

On Mondays and Thursdays, I use my Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque. I swear by this stuff! I use a lot of heat on my hair, and this deep conditioner makes it so that you can hardly tell that I use heat on my hair. It makes it silky smooth without weighing it down.

The best part? All 3 of these products are inexpensive, and are very low-maintenance to use! (Which is awesome for college students like me!)

My Favorite Beauty Secret

WaterWhen it comes to keeping your complexion clear, hair shiny, and even losing weight (Merriman, 2012), there is one beauty secret that I swear by, and you should too: Water!

You’re probably thinking “Right Sarah, I already knew that!” But did you know that nearly half of all Americans are not drinking the amount of water that they should be? (Mann, 2013)

I know personally as a college student, I always have my water bottle with me. My dorm room does not have air conditioning, and during the summer it is HOT! Drinking water is my main source of fighting the heat, and staying hydrated is essential…in all types of weather. I drink about 8 glasses of water a day, which requires refilling my 750mL Camelbak water bottle roughly 3 times.

Since I have been drinking water regularly, my complexion has cleared up, I have lost a few pounds, and I don’t feel bloated as often. My hair is shiny and healthy, and my nails are less brittle. I even sleep better at night.

Welcome to Whimsical Nonsense!

Hello friends!

If you remember me, I was a fashion/beauty blogger at Stay Classy, and I got too caught up in life, and decided to take that site down. It has only been a month, and I already deeply regret deleting that blog.

I missed blogging to much that I decided to create an all new blog for you guys!

Welcome to Whimsical Nonsense, a beauty and fashion blog (with a few little tidbits of my life here and there) for the poor college girl. Well, this blog is for anyone who wants to read it, really, but I’m sure it will appeal more to broke college girls because I am one. Ha! 🙂
